The Practice Class: Introduction to Prayers
with Adrienne Weiss
at Chakrasambara Buddhist Center
Saturday, August 7
10am - noon
($15 / Free for members)
So often we feel disconnected and alone, we yearn for a deeper connection but don't know how to achieve it. In this practice class we learn methods for connecting to a source of supreme inner peace and love using Buddhist prayers - which are essentially guided meditations. The act of praying not only connects us to the inspiration of the Buddhas, but to our own pure potential. Focusing our intention through prayer helps us to transform ourselves and our world.
No pre-registration required. Everyone welcome!

Transforming Adversity Weekend Course
Change Your Mind. Change Your World
Taught by Gen Samten and Kadam Morten
Friday, September 10–Sunday, September 12
at the Kadampa Meditation Center, Glen Spey, NY
Often we can feel that the problems appearing in our world and in our lives are insurmountable. We respond to crisis with fear, anxiety and discouragement. We may feel there is nothing we can do to improve things, that even our best efforts will be wasted and nothing will change. However, this is not the case. According to Buddhist wisdom, there is a limitless potential for world transformation abiding within our own mind. Changing our mind will definitely change the world we and others experience.
During this weekend course taught jointly by Gen Samten and Kadam Morten, we will examine this direct relationship between mind and world, and learn to identify with our potential to transform personal and global suffering into the basis for tremendous inner growth. By transforming adversity into the spiritual path, we will vastly increase our innate good qualities of love, compassion, and wisdom and discover how to live a life of great meaning and joy!

Within our mind lies an extraordinary potential for inner peace and happiness. Through the simple practice of meditation we can learn to access that potential. In meditation we learn to let go of the agitated states of mind, such as anger, that produce unhappiness, and instead to cultivate peaceful, creative minds such as love, acceptance, wisdom and joy. What’s more we learn to transform our day-today experiences, especially our conflicts and problems, into opportunities for developing these joyful minds. In this way we learn the art of happiness and the special skill of creating a joyful life.
This free talk will include two guided meditations and a chance to ask questions.
Pre-registration not nessesary. Everyone is welcome.
