Open House at Vajra Light Center in White Plains

The weekend of June 2nd was an auspicious one for the NKT in New York. While Chakrasambara Center was busy moving into its new premises, Vajra Light Center was hosting an open house attended by more than 200 people in White Plains.

Vajra Light Center, located in a landmark building in the heart of downtown White Plains, is the home to the Westchester Arts Council as well as many local artists. Once a year they open their studios to the public. The streets surrounding the building had many art and craft items on display.

Barbara Panny's special instincts told her that we should take the opportunity of the Art Fair's publicity and have Vajra Light stay open for the viewing of Buddhist tangkhas and shrines. We borrowed beautiful tangkhas from Chakrasambara Center of Tara, Avalokiteshvara and Manjushri and displayed them together with our own wonderful Je Tsongkhapa tangkha, recently donated to the center by Marge Tramonti and Audrey Taylor. Gene did his usual magic of producing stunning posters. Barbara, Amalia and I hosted the event with refreshments.

More than 200 people visited our center. Many were interested in taking information and asking questions. How wonderful that all these visitors (including two small dogs) received blessings by viewing the paintings and statues, thereby placing a seed for enlightenment in each of their hearts.

All our work goes to show that many hands make light work, and that when more people get involved and share their energy, ideas and effort, the more people we can benefit. A special thanks to Barbara for following through with armor-like effort and making the weekend so meaningful.
